Unemployment Insurance Benefits

I filed for unemployment benefits a few weeks ago; I never thought I’d be doing that! The process to file was relatively straightforward using the State of Maryland DLLR (Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation) web site. A couple days after registering I received four letters from DLLR on the same day; all mailed separately. I had a telephone meeting with a DLLR representative to discuss how many weeks severance I received, my salary when employed, and the last two job search contacts. Recipients of unemployment benefits must keep a log of job search contacts and must perform a minimum of two contacts per week. I received my first check a couple weeks ago and filed for the next two weeks this evening. You also have to file for checks on a bi-weekly basis. Hopefully that was the last one I’ll have to do.
